Ethics in a World in Peril
Today's presentation will address the pressing ethical dilemmas facing humanity in an era of unprecedented global challenges. From climate change and pandemics to worsening inequalities, open-ended wars, and political instability, the world is undeniably in peril. The presentation will critically examine the ethical frameworks available for addressing these existential issues, questioning their relevance and exploring the need for other ethical paradigms.

Who Decides What We Forget? Collective Memory(ies), New Technologies, Media, and the So-called Post-Truth
Another war is raging in a constantly evolving information landscape, the ability to shape narratives and influence collective memory has become a crucial issue. This session will examine the forces that determine what is remembered and what is forgotten, particularly in light of the transformative impact of new technologies and media. It will explore how digital platforms, algorithms, and curated content can be used to conceal fact, construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct our understanding of history and public discourse. The session will critically examine the challenges of disinformation, historical revisionism, and the difficulties of discerning truth in an age of information overload, often manipulated. Discussions will focus on artistic and activistsā practices that are engaged with the politics of and preservation of memory, and promoting critical media literacy.

This session will explore the essential role of culture, art, and spirituality in navigating the turbulent times of our era. It will pose a crucial question: in a world undergoing rapid and often destabilizing change, must these fundamental aspects of human experience reinvent themselves, adapt to new realities, or risk becoming obsolete? The speakers will discuss how artistic expressions, cultural traditions, and spiritual practices can be sources of renewal, critical analysis, and alternative pathways for the future. The session will highlight the transformative power of creativity and the importance of fostering environments where the diversity of cultural and spiritual expressions can flourish.

Resistance of the Commons: Rethinking, Reviving, and Reclaiming the Commons in the Age of Predatory and Extractive Diplomacy
This crucial session will address the essential question of renewing with, preserving (while troubling the very notion of preservation) protecting the commons in an era marked by aggressive resource extraction and extractive diplomatic practices. Speakers will explore the concept of ācommon goodsāāencompassing natural resources, cultural heritage, knowledge, and public servicesāand the threats they face from state and non-state actors driven by greed and the thirst for power. The session will aim to highlight emerging resistances to these predatory forces. Discussions will focus on the role of community initiatives, Indigenous knowledge systems, and international solidarity in safeguarding the commons.
