Day’s
presentation

Is Another World Possible?

A person standing on a dirt ground filled with trash, including paper and debris, with their lower body visible. They are wearing pants with an FC Real Madrid emblem and slide sandals, and there is a bicycle wheel and a pile of clothing or fabric nearby.

This presentation will explore the factors, both individual and collective, that can foster the emergence of alternative systems and ways of life.

ROUND TABLE 9

The world is experiencing unprecedented ecological and social crises characterized by species extinctions, open-ended wars, genocides, growing inequalities, and a weakening of community ties. These intrinsically linked crises are degrading ecosystems, depleting resources, and worsening already unjust social, economic, and ecological relations. It is imperative, therefore, to rethink our dominant retributive, property-based notions of justice, which neglect the environmental dimensions of social justice. Since all dimensions of justice are inseparable, this roundtable aims to explore other concepts and forms of justice and the systems that could enable them.

ROUND TABLE 10

Transformation of our economic systems— Feminist and Ecological Alternatives for a Just Economy

This round table aims to explore a fundamental transformation of our economic systems driven by the assertion that new economic systems should be sustainable, feminist, and equitable. Far from being a mere rhetorical stance, this perspective invites a critical examination of current economic structures and the emergence of alternatives that foster social justice and protect planetary ecosystems. We will examine how ecological and feminist principles translate into concrete practices, ranging from the design of more equitable public policies to the promotion of business models where prosperity is not the preserve of a few but a shared reality, and where respect for the dignity of every person and the preservation of the planet are at the heart of all economic decisions.

ROUND TABLE 11

This session will highlight the essential, yet generally undervalued, contributions of the African diaspora to the dynamics of (re)imagining and shaping alternative futures for the continent. We will explore how the roles, perspectives, and engagement of the African diaspora can act as a crucial lever for navigating and overcoming the multiple crises facing Africa. The aim is to foster in-depth reflection on how the diaspora’s human, social, and economic capital can be better mobilized and integrated into our efforts for social transformation and ecological transition.
